Aging, most of us want to fight it!  It is simple the process the growing old.  Your hair turns grey, skin wrinkles, joins and muscles lose flexibility, memory declines, eyesight diminishes and on and on.  Doesn’t sound very pleasant does it??

What causes aging?  Cells in the body divide a set number of times, they die and are replaced by new cells.  With age, this process slows, and a progress deterioration of all body systems begins.  Hmmm I’m not sounding very positive today but wait there’s hope.  Though some of this decline is normal and inevitable, many scientists believe unstable molecular species called free radicals accelerate the process, making us old before our time.  You know, when you meet someone who swears they are only a certain age but we know better!  Sometimes they are lying, sometimes they have just aged themselves.  But you may be able to slowing aging by avoiding outside factors that foster free-radical formation – cigarette smoke, pollution, excessive alcohol,  and radiation from the X rays of the sun – and by enhancing  your body’s own antioxidant defenses.  Manufactured by the cells and obtained through diet, antioxidants are powerful weapons that can disarm free radicals.  I told you there was a bright side!

First make sure you are getting enough Vitamin C and Vitamin E in your diet.  Vitamins C/flavonoids fight free radicals they work within the cells water interior.  Vitamins E protects the fatty membranes that surround the cells.  It also improves immune function.  Green tea whether you drink or take an extract which will be notably more powerful,  is long prized for its longevity promoting properties, pycnogenol and grape seed extract (100 mg twice a day) are a very potent combination.  Folic acid, a B vitamins, maintains red blood cells and promotes the healthy functioning of nerves.  It also protects the heart.  Vitamins B12 fosters healthy brain function, healthy body, healthy mind.  Evening primrose oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which is essential to a number of body processes and helps fight wrinkles!

There is no magic pill but make sure you eat right and take a organic whole food supplement if you have to.  Protect yourself from excessive sun, quit smoking, build and maintain bone and muscle mass by walking and weight training and eat 5 -10 servings of a variety of fruits and veggies each day -they are very rich in antioxidants!
